Job brief

We are looking for a Coroner to join our team and oversee the examination of deceased individuals within our jurisdiction, determine cause-of-death and complete death certificates as needed.

Coroner responsibilities include conducting autopsies, maintaining records and determining the cause of death for ongoing legal cases. This position may also be required to testify in court as an expert witness and work with law enforcement. 

Ultimately, you will work with a team of medical examiners to help law enforcement understand the cause of death in legal cases.

Responsibilities

  • Certify deaths and complete death certificates, including the cause and manner of death
  • Record and preserve any personal objects or items that may be related to the cause of death
  • Remove or supervise the removal of bodies using the appropriate equipment and arrange transportation to morgues
  • Testify at inquests, hearings or court trials as required
  • Complete and maintain reports and death certificates
  • Confer with public health officials, doctors and law enforcement officers
